Hi,
I'm looking for a Skype alternative. It should work well (I tried Ekiga - Never got a connection) and easy (create account, search for username, add user, start call).
I'd like it to be in Portage as well as in the Ubuntu repos (my gf has Ubuntu) but this is not obligatory. The Wengophone seems to be only available for 32bit.
compatible Windows clients must be available because I can't force my friends using linux
It has to be free

Well, It has had a lot of trouble on gentoo, but Gizmo is an option. It appears there is some implementation of it around here. You can search the forums for more info.

Gizmo itself is neither free nor 64bit capable. It's protocol is SIP though.
Are there any easy to use 64bit/GTK/free implementations of the SIP Protocol? |

The sound is good in the beginning and after a few seconds it sounds crappy - like talking on a mobile phone and holding the the phone half a meter away from your ear. Whats the reason for this? |
