You need the nvidia-drivers-96.43.01 driver.

But 3D and/or X.org support for GeForce 4 Ti series ended with nvidia-drivers-1.0.9700 (I remember I couldn't use anything but framebuffer after an earlier update)? Could someone confirm newer drivers really don't have full support for GF4 or am I wrong? If there aren't, it seems I need to downgrade again and write angry mails to Nvidia. There aren't any other (compiling) legacy drivers for Linux, are they?

Edit: I (locally unmasked and) compiled the 96 drivers as proposed above and in another thread that explained it with a version renumbering at Nvidia. Nothing seems to be broken, never mind.

Maybe the old driver should be masked or throw a notice to use the 96?
