Recently I've installed atop (System & Process Monitor) with the intention of monitor per-process HD I/O in my server. For atop to monitor this, a patch must be applied to kernel. Anyone knows where is that patch? and if it's the case, with what portage tree kernel sources comes in?

Wow, over 4 years later, and here I am wondering the same thing. Have these patches been included in any of Gentoo's kernel sources? It would seem like an easy add with the help of, say, an "atop" USE flag. With the patches, atop really seems very useful for servers.

Mods: I found this thread on a search - it should probably be moved to "Kernel & hardware", I should think. Thanks.

umm, can i like second the motion to get this incorporated into a gentoo kernel?
someone at work showed me that free bsd lets you see disk i/o per-process, right
out of the box..
this morning somebody mentioned they installed htop on one of our debian systems.
i quickly installed it on my local gentoo box. then i searched portage for other top
alternatives and discovered atop.
now ive been digging around a bit, reading about this kernel patch business. a use
flag as suggested above sounds like a great idea.
at any rate i might try to patch the kernel myself and if successful, ill report back with
a simple how-to.
