Ok it wasn't always like this. I can remember it being fine when I first setup this box, but recently some of the fonts in KDE are too large. I've tried reseting them in the control center but it doesn't have an affect.

Heres an example....

As you can see in a desprite attempt to fix this I have set every font in the control center to 8pt. But this does nothing for some fonts, such as the menus in firefox and thunderbird.

The control center in KDE only control the fonts of QT apps. Both Thunderbird and Firefox are gtk programs. The easiest way to fix this is to emerge gtk-chtheme then run it with "gtk-chtheme". That will lett you select the proper fonts.

Alternatively if you like to edit config files, you can edit ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and add the line 'gtk-font-name="<fontname> <size>"'(without the single quotes). Though using gtk-chtheme would probably be easier ;)

Thx, solved my issues too. Finally a way to have proper fonts for non-KDE apps without the need of installing gnome-control-center.
