I've been checking out this game from Basilisk Games called Eschalon: Book I. It is an RPG with fairly dated graphics. However I have found the game to be pretty immersing, detailed, and a lot of fun. I look forward to the day the full version is available for Linux. I will probably be purchasing it. The price isn't too unreasonable and I would be supporting a company that supports Linux. Anyway there is a free demo available for download. There is nothing to install (just unpack and run) and the game will run awesome on older machines. It worked perfectly on my *buntu install. I see no reason why it shouldn't work in Gentoo. For anyone interested you can find out more and grab the demo from the official site.

Heh--looks delightfully old school. I may have to check it out when I have time...

Yeah it's a throw back to old school RPGs. It runs at 800x600 (I wonder if the full version will allow greater resolution) and has some decent effects. The graphics are secondary to me though. I'm all about gameplay and fun factor and so far it hasn't disappointed.

I think this is a very smart thing to do (supporting Linux) for a small company. They're going to go well below the radar for most Windows gamers, but they may significantly increase their sales by supporting Linux for two reasons. 1) Gaming in Linux is far more limited so any new title immediately warrants consideration. 2) Linux users tend to be loyal to vendors who support them. I know I try to be (My video card - Nvidia, My printer - HP, My Tv Tuner - pcHDTV).

Demo works fine on ~amd64 w/multilib. I'm trying it out now. If it's any good I'll definitely buy it.

I played the demo, works great. But with such a 'dated' look I'm sadly hesitant to even spend 20$ on it. I loved rainslick which is how I found this game, but can anyone vouch for how fun it is?
