Hi,
When I try and emerge cplay (I've read good stuff about it here on the forum), I get the following:

Code:

bash-2.05b# emerge cplay
Calculating dependencies
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "cplay" have been masked.

!!! Error calculating dependencies. Please correct.

This is the only ebuild to have given me any message like this so far. I'm new to Gentoo, and only barely out of newbie-shorts, so I'm not really sure what to do. I understand what it's saying, but I don't understand why on earth it would give me this message.

Hi levez.

In Gentoo packages are masked if they are considered unstable or haven't been tested sufficiently. By default portage won't let us emerge unstable packages, which explains why you are getting that message.

If you really want to install cplay you still can, but you need to explicitly tell portage that it's ok to install it:
Code:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge cplay

There's some really good info about masked packages in the FAQ section of the forums here

Ciao, Brandy

Ah, many thanks. I was aware that packages could be masked, but hadn't really put any thought into why. I had assumed that the message I was recieving about cplay was syptomatic of some bug in the ebuild, or a problem in my system elsewhere.

Of course, I really should have RTFM first, I know ;)

Thanks again, I'll go and give that page a read.
