|
|
I'm using a motherboard with an onboard Realtek giggabit nic which works fine when using the LiveCD but when I boot up into the installed system dhcpcd times out.
lspci outputs this about the nic,
Code: | 03:03.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8110SC/8169SC Gigabit Ethernet (rev 10)
|
ifconfig looks normal except for the IP address. (I'm just downloading the files to install a desktop then I'll copy and paste the results on here).
Any help would be really appreciated.
P.S. This is the first time I've used any forum so if I've made any faux pas's please let me know, thanx.

please post lsmod output from both the livecd and the booted system, and ifconfig -a from both.

Did you emerge a dhcp client like dhcpcd when installing form the livecd? Can you ping a numerical address? Try pinging your router. Also post the contents of thee files.
/etc/resolv.conf

Just realised when pasting in ifconfig -a results that the mac address of eth0 on the LiveCD was the same as eth1 on the installed system so tried dhcpcd eth1 and all worked fine. Guess the others my ieee1394 port and for some reason they switched places
Sorry for being such an idiot and thanks for the help |

I've seen this kind of thing happen WAYY too many times before - I tried to get a thread (by me) about this stickied, but it never was
I had this problem for a while, fortunately, I was (by chance) able to realize the mistake.
Take a look at some udev rules, and you should be able to reverse the order, if that's what you want to do.
