|

Hi. I only just set up uvesafb & fbcondecor and it's all working great. However there is one minor issue with my setup. X will load, and as soon as KDM starts loading the display will go back to the terminal. It is very easy to just press ctrl+alt+f7 to go back to X, but this isn't a normal behaviour... Also, whenever I unplug/plug in the laptop (causing services to start/stop), the display will go to the terminal. Is this related to the presence of the quiet CONSOLE=/dev/tty1 kernel parameter required to use uvesafb??
I'm guessing there's a simple solution to this... Any ideas?
Thanks in advance _________________ # "Hmm, sounds like your system froze up."

It's not the first time that I see that... what do you have inside /etc/conf.d/xdm ?
I have this inside my file :
Code: |
DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm"
|
One of my friend use VesaFB and he has this problem too. I don't think that this problem is related to the UVESA. |

Code: | CHECKVT=7
DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm" |
That's it. Nothing wrong there (I think) _________________ # "Hmm, sounds like your system froze up."

Try to put your hostname in the 127.0.0.1 line in /etc/hosts and see if it makes any difference ...

This is what I have right now..
Code: | # IPv4 and IPv6 localhost aliases
127.0.0.1 optilaptop.casa
::1 localhost |
That looks fine to me...

My networking knowledge is pretty pathetic... what do I need to plug in that? _________________ # "Hmm, sounds like your system froze up."

So Code: | 127.0.0.1 hostname.full.fqdn hostname localhost.localdomain localhost | instead of Code: | 127.0.0.1 optilaptop.casa
::1 localhost | ? Just did that now hopefully will work at next reboot.. _________________ # "Hmm, sounds like your system froze up."

Did anyone find a solution to this issue ?
It is very annoying and I still can't get it to work. Removing fadeout from /etc/conf.d/fbcondecor as suggested elsewhere on the forum had no effected. Everything seems to work fine. But once KDM is loaded it switches back to the console again. If I remove the splash parameters from the kernel line i grub it works as usual (but of course without splash/fbcondecor).
Any more suggestions ?
Thanks in advance

If a boot service fails it may also cause the screen to revert back to the console from gdm/kdm if using fbcondecor. I experienced this problem when the ntp-client service failed during boot. This may be a problem being experienced by some. To stop this from occurring you can change SPLASH_VERBOSE_ON_ERRORS="yes" to SPLASH_VERBOSE_ON_ERRORS="no" in /etc/conf.d/splash.
Of course doing this also means that you don't get notified if critical boot processes fail. _________________ (IRC: weirdedout)
