I've been doing some research on which modem would be best for a voicemail/fax/caller ID tracking system for Linux (obviously Gentoo in this case). My system only has a PCI card left, but I could also do external if there's no other choice.
For the PCI versions, I've looked at Agere, Conexant and PC-Tel based modems. I'm pretty sure that the Agere ones are out of the question. I haven't found that much info about PC-Tel based ones in terms of their voice and caller ID capabilities under Linux. And the only Conexant-based ones that would work are the HCF kind, although their drivers are still unstable for voice and caller ID, according to their website. I've also heard many bad things about the chipsets themselves when it comes to connection with an ISP, but since that's not the intent for the modem, I think they could still be usable.
Does anyone have any experience with this use for a modem here? If so, what are your recommendations?
Thanks! |
