hi
got a quick question:
why aren't the gentoo kernel sources 'ported' to the 2.4.21 vanilla sources? i mean we sticking to the 2.4.20r5 for quite some time now. couldn't find any infos regarding that on forum.

I ran 2.4.21 for a while... less stable.. as for why it is not the standard for gentoo-sources I don't know.
I ran it for about 3 weeks and ran into problems with everything ranging from X to playing DVDs.. and it would not compile my nvidia stuff |

You can always try pfeifer-sources.
They'll become the new gentoo-sources when considered stable.
I'm running them since they're out and never had any problems with them. |

Wouldn't running 2.4.21 cause slowdowns b/c it doen't have the optimization patches that the gentoo-sources kernel has? Maybe that is the problems you were having the the vanilla sources. |

not necissarily.. you could customize it enough to become faster than the default gentoo-sources |

just installed gentoo on ppc - I was somehow shocked that they regularly use 2.4.21. But after heaps of thinking I came to the conclusion that it doesnt matter - we all know that stable releases wont offer more than bugfixes (and my system can be considered stable)... _________________ I'm really wondering what Lovechild is doing nowadays... |
