hello
i got some strange errors in my log
1. gdmgreeter[7564]: No default session link found. Using Failsafe GNOME.
but i am able to log on normally with every user and every WindowManager
2. gconfd (icetee-8522): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only config source at position 0
gconfd (icetee-8522): Resolved address "xml:readwrite:/home/icetee/.gconf" to a writable config source at position 1
gconfd (icetee-8522): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults" to a read-only config source at position 2
uhm? what does that mean? |

The new default session line error means that there is no "default" windowmanager choosen for gdm. Of course, it has been forever since I used gnome, but the error is pretty clear. You should check the files in /etc/conf.d and /etc/rc.conf - there should be a variable somewhere in there that sets the default window manager to start when a user logs in (from gdm, that is).
The second set of errors are resolution and dispatch messages from gconfd as it reads and write config information. It's similar to a directory service (like openldap) but closer to something like the windows registry in functionality. These messages are normal and can probably be disable with some obscure configuration option to up the debugging log messages a bit.
