|
|
I always use Intel chips, never AMD. So when I downloaded 2007.0 for my new AMD system I brain farted and grabbed the x86 minimal install cd. I setup networking and ssh and left for work. I am now at work ready to do the install remotely and realized I didn't get the right cd. Question is, since it is a minimal install disk, will it still work? I mean, I should be able to just follow the AMD64 documentation and it should work since I will be grabbing the tarballs from the internet. Or am I missing something?

I believe so as long as you download the right stage tarball and make sure you check the profile. _________________ Registered Linux User # 451058 |

I agree with davascript. As far as I know, all of the architecture-specific things are contained in the stage tarball, so you should be okay. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

No it wont work. I get this error when I try and chroot into the system:
Code: | chroot: cannot run command `/bin/bash': Exec format error |
I found this from another forum:
If the chroot command returns with the error "chroot: cannot run command `/bin/bash': Exec format error", this usually indicates that the livecd environment is not compatible with that of the installed system.
For example, the error is most frequently seen when trying to chroot to a 64-bit system (eg. amd64) from a 32-bit livecd (eg. x86).
The solution is to use a livecd which is using the same architecture as the installed system.
Thanks for the replies anyway fellas. |

Doh! I didn't even think about the problem with chrooting. Thanks for posting back with the correct answer. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

Ah yes you would have to build a 32 bit OS with the minimal. Sorry for the confusion. _________________ Registered Linux User # 451058 |
