So I wanted to view images in a folder using feh. I highlighted them all, and accidentally opened them all. Each of thse images is about 2300x3000. Next thing I knew, my box was frozen. I left it for a while, hoping my Ctrl+Alt+F6 trick would drop me out of X, but no such luck. In the end, I held the power button and force reset my computer.
Besides the obligatory "Stupid thing to do, don't do that again" advice, is there any way to get control of my computer if something like this happens ("this" being any activity that may lock up my computer like that).
Thanks for the advice!

if you can't ssh in and kill it, you can use the magic sysrq... (if enabled)
hold ctrl+alt+sysrq and hit s (for sync) then b (for reboot)

A fix for feh is this:
For some reason, Feh decided to open up all the images I Ctrl+A'ed. This does not happen, if, in ~/.fehrc, I have:
Code: | # Set the default feh options to be recursive and verbose
feh -g 1320x990 --auto-zoom --zoom 100 --sort name |
If I click on an image, then do Ctrl+A and press enter, it only opens the image I initially clicked on.
