Well, i want to mount a cd with large file names.
In Windows i can read the filenames with no problem, but in linux it shortens they to 8.3 format.
Reading "man mount" i found:
Code: | Rock Ridge is an extension to iso9660 that provides all of these unix
like features. Basically there are extensions to each directory
record that supply all of the additional information, and when Rock
Ridge is in use, the filesystem is indistinguishable from a normal
UNIX file system (except that it is read-only, of course). |
¿It's a feature from the cd or from the system?
If its the second, why can i read all the filenames in windows but not in linux?
EDIT: Thanks man.

If the CD’s got long file names in Windows it is probably burned with the Joliet extension (which is a MS thing) not with Rock Ridge (which is a Linux thing). Linux should have Joliet support out-of-the-box, but it needs to be compiled into the kernel. Check your kernel config (file system section) for Joliet support. The ISO 9660 has several restrictions (like 8.3 file names) which are remedied with these (de facto standard) extensions. _________________ Please add [SOLVED] to your message title if your problem is solved.
