Your IP is not static. That means it changes everytime you dhcpcd, mostly when you reboot. It's more than natural. Usually ISPs will offer static ip packages for an additional fee. _________________ Hello. |

Hello gentooJunkie,
If you use DHCP you'll probably get a new IP address each time you boot up, especially if the lease time from the DHCP server is fairly short. If you need to access the system from somewhere else and cannot because your IP address changes frequently you may want to look into a service like DynDNS _________________ Robert |

you mean a new IP from your router or from your ISP ??
I dunno which ISP you are subscribed to, but for me, OCN is giving me a new IP at each re-connection of the modem/router.
And I looked into a lot of ISP in tokyo to check if one of them would provide static addresses, but no luck so far.
If you're talking about the IP address given by your ISP, then yes, you gotta use someting like dyndns.org that will enable you to get a machine name that is binded to your ip address everytime it changes.
you'll want to have a daemon like ddclient to do the job for you.

Using Yahoo BB, which I might add is a very impressive service. I just got a domain from noip.com so that takes care of that. But there's another problem. Eth0 will only be brought every other boot. And only Gentoo gives me this problem. Very strange. _________________ GO ASASHORYU!

are you dual-booting ???
I heard some similar stories about how win2k would bring the netcard on, and when you rebooted to linux, it wouldn't show up until you retarted the machine... |
