DRM & Kernel 2.4.21-ben1

I'm using Kernel 2.4.21-ben1 (rsynced from penguinppc.org) and can't get DRM to work properly. As root, I can start the X server, but glxinfo says "direct rendering: No". As normal user, I cannot even start the X server; kernel says Oops. Excerpt from dmesg see below.

Seems to be a kernel bug. Or does anyone have a working confiig with the new benh kernel? I'm using an iBook 2.2 (700Mhz) with ATI Radeon M6 LY DDR SGRAM 16 M.
