Hi!
I'm still quite new to Linux (having used ubuntu for about half a year now) and would have liked to try gentoo. Unfortunately I do not even get it installed because it says "Disk error 80, AX = 4200, drive 9F" while still loading already.
I've googled the error and found pretty many posts on the problem but I didn't find one single hint about how to solve it.
Hope to find someome who's able to help me here.
Thanks in advance for any hints,
Chris

moilette,
Welcome to gentoo.
The liveCD provides a number of features that can turned on and off. Read the help screens available at the boot: prompt.
Things to try are noapic nodma ... at the boot: prompt type
Code: | gentoo noapic nodma | you may try any combination _________________ Regards,

Thank you for the quick reply!
I tried various combinations of options I thought might help, but none of them did. So I decided just to burn the cd again. I didn't know that it made such a difference how you burn them... Well, now it works a bit better (3rd cd, because the 2nd got stuck at "Copying read-write image...") but I have not yet managed to complete a successful (networkless) installation.
All the same I'll mark this thread as solved.
Greetz,
