I figure this should be simple to do, but I don't know how to go about it.

When I load X, I want it to open one program and nothing else. That's the easy part. The hard part is how do get it maximized with no title bar (the bar with the maximize, minimize, close buttons, etc.). So the program is the only thing on the screen.

Any ideas?

In order to start only one application you could enter only:
Code:
exec <your-command>
in your ~/.xinitrc file. If you have nothing else in the xinitrc file you will have no Winodw Manager just that one application.

To get the application to run at a specific size would probably be specific to the application. What command is it?

another minimalistic WM which will be able to help you is pekwm. You can specify "autoproperties" for any window/program you like, and whenever that program starts, it will define the size/position/layout of the window. Really neat. (emerge -s pekwm)

Just fyi, gnome isn't really a minimal environment but it supports putting apps in fullscreen too (atleast metacity does). I wouldn't know the default shortcut (I got it set to alt+F3) but you can set it in Desktop Properties -> Keyboard Shortcuts. Very handy :)

Yeah . . . it would be just like the tv show. Except somebody would be watching.
