touchpad not recognized

Hey, I'm trying to get my synaptics touchpad working on my laptop... with the liveCD, everything is fine and dandy and the device maps to /dev/psaux as it should, but I can't get my kernel to recognize it. I have PS/2 mice enabled in the Mice section, but dmesg never indicates anything about it.

Have you configured the gpm.conf file ???
If you try to enable gpm you should try this in your /etc/conf.d/gpm.conf

Mouse type PS2
device /dev/psaux

than /etc/init.d/gpm (re)start

well, not sure what I changed, but I recompiled my kernel and now it works... thanks anyways!

If you're using a synaptics touchpad you probably want this:
