Entering 'cdrecord -scanbus' gives:
Code:
 scsibus0:
        0,0,0     0) 'FUJITSU ' '    NW99T6325F49' '0029' Disk
        0,1,0     1) *
        0,2,0     2) *
        0,3,0     3) *
        0,4,0     4) *
        0,5,0     5) *
        0,6,0     6) *
        0,7,0     7) *
scsibus1:
        1,0,0   100) 'ATA     ' 'FUJITSU MHV2200B' '0000' Disk
        1,1,0   101) *
        1,2,0   102) *
        1,3,0   103) *
        1,4,0   104) *
        1,5,0   105) *
        1,6,0   106) *
        1,7,0   107) *

There is no DVD drive (I have Mashita) listed.
Meanwhile I am able to mount CD and DVD disks with data, and work with them, but I can not mount empty DVD disk:

Code:
mount /dev/dvdrw /mnt/cdrom/
mount: block device /dev/dvdrw is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: No buffer space available

And if I try to burn DVD image after that I get:

Code:
mkisofs -r -o /root/Desktop/ext/Gentoo.iso /mnt/cdrom
Total translation table size: 0
Total rockridge attributes bytes: 254
Total directory bytes: 0
Path table size(bytes): 10
Max brk space used 21000
175 extents written (0 MB)

What am I doing wrong?

Infineon,

You do not mount blank optical media, there is no filesystem to mount until you burn one,
Burning a CD from the command line is a two step process.
Code:
mkisofs -r -o /root/Desktop/ext/Gentoo.iso /mnt/cdrom
makes an iso filesystem in a file that you ccan subsequently burn with cdrecord.

However Gentoo.iso is already an iso9660 filesystem in a file, so you only need the cdrecord step.
You need to be either root or in the cdrw group since you will need low level access to the writer.

In one tutorial there is following:

Quote:
Burn ISO image onto CD:

* Linux 2.6 kernel: cdrecord -v -eject speed=16 dev=ATA:1,0,0 RedHat-7.0-i386-powertools.iso

but how do I determine my recorders "dev=" address?

Thanks!

This is why I wish wodim was on the Live CD...

Code:
# wodim -v image.iso

...And it handles the rest automatically, assuming you only have one burning drive.

Does wodim work only with iso9660 or am I having another problem here?

 wodim -v /root/Desktop/ext/Another-Live-DVD.iso

It looks like your DVD images are just empty files.

Yeap! Recording was successful, it was my fault...
I've ruined my image files during unsuccessful attempts of image burning...
:(
