Running pure reiser4 system. 4 partitions, 3 of them lzo1 including root, 64bit, latest zen. No issues. Well, some months ago lzo1 partitions when checked by fsck would show a lot of warnings about statistics but not anymore.
BTW could we get the latest patches in zen? http://marc.info/?l=reiserfs-devel&m=119965401017339&w=2
They don't apply cleanly on top of zen...thanks!

Well, this means that something is wrong here, what is the last version of that driver? Is newer than the version on portage? Because my driver is the newest on portage, and you can see the result :-(

That was the problem. I created an ebuild on my local overlay for the newest version of the driver, and it works.
Thank you

And what about svgalib?

Why you don't use gspca module included in zen-sources?
---
Porque no usas el driver gspca que ya viene con el kernel? Asi te ahorras el tener que recompilarlo cada vez que cambias de kernel ni tener que preocuparte por nuevas versiones.

keenblade: I fixed all errors except toshiba_smi... maybe you're using a 64bits kernel?

Everybody: Don't use master-dev-rt... it's ULTRA-VERY-EXPERIMENTAL and it doesn't have all features yet.

hi, i've got a dell xps with an integrated webcam ( id: 05a9:2640 ) which should work with the uvc drivers.
If I compile them as modules the kernel boots fine, but when it reaches "letting udev process events" it sits there for a (long) while (about 2-3 mins) and then it goes on normally. if I do an "htop" I can see that there's a modprobe process still running and it uses 100% of the cpu.
I've also tried to compile the driver into the kernel but the problem isn't gone.. it just hangs when loading the kernel and not udev.
if i don't compile the driver the problem is gone, so i'm pretty sure the problem is there.
lemme know if you need logs or something else to debug the issue :D

bye

oh well !
another m1330 user :D

don't compile it into the kernel, rather make a loadable module ...

here you go: http://ubuntuusers.de/paste/30048/

Yes, you are right. I am using ~amd64 arch. From your post I understand toshiba_smi does not work on 64 bit kernel :(
I can swear once upon a time my lcd brightness were adjustable by fn + some f keys. Don' know which kernel I lost that.
Anyway thanks for your great effort. I'll try again.

You asked me to pull without telling me which branch you
want to merge with, and 'branch.v2.6.24-rc8-dev-zen.merge' in
your configuration file does not tell me either. Please
name which branch you want to merge on the command line and
try again (e.g. 'git pull <repository> <refspec>').
See git-pull(1) for details on the refspec.

If you often merge with the same branch, you may want to
configure the following variables in your configuration
file:

branch.v2.6.24-rc8-dev-zen.remote = <nickname>
branch.v2.6.24-rc8-dev-zen.merge = <remote-ref>
remote.<nickname>.url = <url>
remote.<nickname>.fetch = <refspec>

See git-config(1) for details.

am not familiar with git.
i moved to zen-devel(branch.v2.6.24-rc8-dev-zen)
can anybody tell me the commands to git-pull?

I have tried to create an issue. It has been reported as succeffully created but then it does not appear and it can't be found by Search.

Thus I repeat it here:

The Zen kernel has new config parameters compared to the standard kernel. The efficiency is depending on these parameters which are not well documented.

The standard kernel (taken from 2.6.24-rc8) already has the following parameters with respect to timing:

Quote:
# Processor types and features
CONFIG_TICK_ONESHOT
CONFIG_NO_HZ
CONFIG_HIGH_RES_TIMERS
CONFIG_HPET_TIMER
CONFIG_HPET_EMULATE_RTC

# Sound
CONFIG_SND_TIMER
CONFIG_SND_RTCTIMER
CONFIG_SND_SEQ_RTCTIMER_DEFAULT

The additional Zen config parameters (taken from 2.6.24-rc7-zen2) are

Quote:
# Kernel Tunables
CONFIG_ZEN_SERVER
CONFIG_ZEN_FILE_SERVER
CONFIG_ZEN_GAMING
CONFIG_ZEN_DESKTOP
CONFIG_ZEN_LL_DESKTOP (low latency)
CONFIG_ZEN_CUSTUM
# with parameters for tunables
CONFIG_SCHED_LATENCY
CONFIG_SCHED_MIN_GRANULARITY
CONFIG_SCHED_WAKEUP_GRANULARITY
CONFIG_SCHED_BATCH_WAKEUP_GRANULARITY
CONFIG_DEF_TIMESLICE
CONFIG_VM_MAPPED
CONFIG_VM_HARDMAPLIMIT
CONFIG_VM_TAIL_LARGEFILES
CONFIG_VM_DITRY_RATIO

# CPU Scheduler
CONFIG_CPUSCHED_CFS

# IO Scheduler
CONFIG_FINGERPRINTING

# Library Routines
CONFIG_GENETIC_LIB

# Standard Options
CONFIG_ARCH_HIBERNATION_POSSIBLE
CONFIG_ARCH_SUSPEND_POSSIBLE
CONFIG_SWAP_PREFETCH
CONFIG_CC_STRIP_DEBUG
CONFIG_RADIX_TREE_CONCURRENT
CONFIG_RADIX_TREE_OPTIMISTIC
CONFIG_PROCESSOR_SELECT
CONFIG_CPU_SUP_AMD_INTEL
CONFIG_CPU_SUP_CYRIX
CONFIG_CPU_SUP_NSC
CONFIG_CPU_SUP_CENTAUR
CONFIG_CPU_SUP_TRANSMETA
CONFIG_CPU_SUP_NEXGEN
CONFIG_CPU_SUP_UMC
CONFIG_TINY_SHMEM
CONFIG_X86_MARCH_NATIVE
CONFIG_BADRAM

# Timers
CONFIG_HZ_216
CONFIG_HZ_250_NODEFAULT (instead CONFIG_HZ_250)
CONFIG_HZ_432
CONFIG_HZ_864
CONFIG_HZ_1500
CONFIG_HZ_2000
CONFIG_HZ_3000
CONFIG_HZ_4000
CONFIG_HZ_5000
CONFIG_HZ_7500
CONFIG_HZ_10000

# Hardware Performance Monitoring Support
CONFIG_PERFMON

Of course there will be different optimization targets. But can you explain the meaning of the different parameters, their relationship and inter-dependancy?

How to achieve the best performance and how to test it e.g. for audio purposes?

Hope this will start some documentation. The best system is not the best if it is not understood how to tune or to operate.

Uli

PS: it would be fine if the editor at zen-sources.org would allow quoting

Hi Waninkoko,

could you please add the following 4 patches for reiser4 (I think you've already parts of them applied):

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.reiserfs.general/21304

many thanks in advance

Are you sure that you want to go back to Reiser4? Now that the project seems officially dead.

yeah, pretty sure :P

listen: that's only for /root & /usr/portage, whether I change my fs on the other partitions (besides portage and / ) is still pending

if I run into problems I might migrate back to jfs or reiserfs3.6 ...

thanks for your worries  I will be over-cautious & make backups regularly ...

reiser4 / baselayout-2 aka. openrc users make some noise :!:

reiser4 works now with baselayout-2 https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-4745987.html#4745987

latest master-devel

EDIT: well, Im not a programmer, Im not a kernel hacker, but I always try to solve my problems on my own ;) so, looking at power.h files there's a missing #endif. so, if it has to be placed at the end of the file my patch is
Code:

 {

 #endif
+#endif

(with this small patch it compiles fine, but I dont know if we have to place there endif :D )
edit2: booted & woorkin ;)

@Inventore1 : Quite some time back, I had already pointed out that the linux-uvc driver in kernel has problems. (It takes a lot of time to modprobe.) Don't use the linux-uvc in zen-sources, use linux-uvc from portage - it works fine.

@Darksidex25 : Do you really need svgalib? Especially the kernel helper module svgalib_helper.ko. If not, just compile with "no-helper" use flag, i.e., 'USE="no-helper" emerge svgalib'. (With this it wont compile the kernel module, and so its in fact not required to emerge it everytime after recompiling kernel at all.)
