Dear Gentoo/PPC users,

I've a Powerbook G4 12" (Aluminum version) with 1.33GHz processor. I'm wondering if I should use the 32-bit Gentoo/PPC or the 64-bit. I remember when I bought this laptop, it was advertised as a 64-bit machine. But I downloaded the 64-bit installCD and found I couldn't boot. The 32-bit version does work. Can somebody educate me a little bit?

Thanks

G4 is a 32-bit machine and you can only use the 32-bit Gentoo/ppc-version.

You might be thinking of the bus width.

I've got a G4, and I've tried Yellow Dog, Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, Suse, and even OpenBSD on it. In my opinion, there's nothing that performs better on a G4 than Gentoo's ppc arch. A lot of the Gentoo ppc users have the G4 and you shouldn't have any trouble getting help. :)
