Hello,
I finally got around to putting gentoo on my new Thinkpad T61. I'm dual booting with Windows Vista, and all my partition issues are quite nicely sorted out. I've got the 1680x1050 resolution screen, and the nVidia Quadro NVS 140M video card (I'd never go with integrated graphics!) I'm also using tuxonice-sources; I finally decided to give suspend a try.
After solving some initial kernel config issues, I got it to boot up into the console. Now, though, I can't get it to start X. I've emerged fluxbox and followed the steps in the fluxbox guide to get that working. I forgot about the guides at first, though, so I didn't use the xorg guide when I started. As far as I can see, the only difference this makes is that the INPUT_DEVICES and VIDEO_CARDS variables in /etc/make.conf weren't set when I emerged xorg. I have since set them, but haven't re-emerged xorg.
I tried using the xorg.conf that I found on the Ubuntu forums; modified, of course, by taking out all of the wacom references. That gave me the following errors:

Basically, the screen goes black for a bit, and then hitting enter gives me a console prompt.
I then tried to do xorgconfig to make a new xorg.conf from scratch. This time, doing "startx 2> errors" gave me this:

The screen goes black and nothing happens. Not responsive to any input, not ctrl-alt-bksp, ctrl-c, nothing. Although the caps lock LED does still go on and off if I press the button. I had to ctrl-alt-del.
Last thing I tried was to run "X -configure" as root. That time, I got similar behaviour to the first time (screen went blank, then returned me to the prompt) and I got the following errors.

It seems to me I'm having some problem with 'wfb', whatever that is, as well as the glx module. Any advice to get me up and running with X? I would strongly prefer to have full acceleration as opposed to using the nv driver, since I eventually want to try beryl. However, at this point I'm open to any advice, since I really just need to get this up and running, and I'll deal with other problems later.

These files are quite easy to obtain now, since I'm writing this from within Linux.  In other words, I managed to get X working: my problem seems to have gone away. I solved it by re-emerging nvidia drivers, then following the instructions it spat out afterwards; I think it was something like | Code: | | eselect opengl set nvidia |
which I got from my command line history.
So... if anyone else is having these problems, I guess the first thing you should try is to re-emerge the drivers, and be sure to follow the instructions that they spit out at the end. Kind of obvious, I know
