Hello,

I get the following error during the bootstrap process (glibc)
Code:
/usr/portage/sys-libs/glibc/files/eblits/src_install.eblit: line 215: i686-pc-linux-gnu-strip: command not found
 *
 * ERROR: sys-libs/glibc-2.6.1 failed.
 * Call stack:
 *            ebuild.sh, line 1701:  Called dyn_install
 *            ebuild.sh, line 1138:  Called qa_call 'src_install'
 *            ebuild.sh, line   44:  Called src_install
 *   glibc-2.6.1.ebuild, line  157:  Called eblit-run 'src_install'
 *   glibc-2.6.1.ebuild, line  150:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *      eblit-${PN}-$1 || die
 *  The die message:
 *   (no error message)
 *
 * If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.
 * A complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.6.1/temp/build.log'.
 *

CHOST in make.conf is set to: i686-pc-linux-gnu

The only available profile (gcc-config) is: i486-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.1

Im sure thats the problem, but Im sure Ive done the installation using the same stage tarball and make.conf a few weeks ago, without having this problem. Why isnt there a matching profile?

Nomed2007,

Stage 1 installs are no longer supported. They take longer, need more support and provide no benefits over a stage 3 install followed by
Code:
emerge -e system

The stage 1 is designed to run on anything later than an i386 ... 386 CPUs are no longer supported, so that gcc-config is correct.
The bootstrap will build you a toolchain for whatever CHOST you set.

I'll move your post to unsupported software.
