|
|
I've been searching and I can't find anything and will continue searching but here's my VERY FRANTIC question: I just built a new kernel and copied it to a new file in my boot directory. I did NOT unmount /boot before reboot and now when I boot I just get the word GRUB it's not the grub prompt but just the word GRUB. I have homework due very soon and other stuff that needs to be done very soon PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! sorry for the frantic-ness. PS I did a fsck.ext3 on /dev/hda2 and it didnt find any errors |

This probably means that the bootloader is not installed correctly... insert your LiveCD and correct the error by following the Gentoo Installation guide again.
With this I mean to edit your grub.conf and check wether it's correct or not amd the enter the grub console and do root (hdx,x) and so on... |

Just try to do what I say, this does _not_ mean you have to re-install the entire system. Just boot with the LiveCD and mount your /boot. Then simply check the configuration. After doing that, it'd work.
Perhaps I missunderstood something but I simply see a missconfigured bootloader. Else be more detailed. |

I mounted boot and checked my grub.conf against my working backup of grub.conf. I also did a fsck.ext3 -f /dev/hda2 Any other ideas? thanks |

Do this:
# grub
(MBR)
> root (hdx,y)
> setup (hdx)
(not in MBR)
> root (hdx,y)
> setup (hdx,z)
What it seems is that you have to run setup again so it checks the files and the partitions. |
