Hi there
On my notebook (thinkpad z61m) Im getting a constant problem with my fans always on

I did some temeprature monitorig but didnt find any max temperatures or average good temperatures that I should tend to

Im having it most of the time in a dual head setup, with tow separate screens (1680x1050 and big LCD 1600x1200)
The Core2Duo T7200(2GHz) is at idle around 50C, when in some load (make, etc) it goes up to 60-70C.
GPU when idle is around 60C, when under some stress (make, etc) goes up to 70
With glxgears it gets up to 80C (GPU)

Tried downgrade ati drivers, using the standard binary, actualy 8.40
Want to try radeonhd

Any ideas about the "ideal temperatures"?

edit: I want to try a non SMP kernel from the newest stable gentoo-sources. read somewhere that the smp is causing some weird issues.
thx

The CPU should not go above 70C or so, and I believe the BIOS will adjust the CPU speed to keep it from doing so. The GPU is able to operate at higher temperatures: I'm not sure what the limit is for your system, but it's usually around 90C-110C.

For keeping your system cool, make sure the air vents aren't blocked. If you can, put the computer on a notebook stand so air can circulate underneath it.

mobile cpus are allowed to get hotter than desktop cpus. the t7200 is allowed to reach 100°c: http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sspec=sl9sf
so no need to worry
