Hi, I just moved into my dorm and I know from experience with laptops that wireless internet is a pain with linux. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on a card to pick up for my desktop, i need a pci wireless card thats fairly reliable, hoping to play games on it, the network is not encrypted at all, Hoping to save a couple trips to fries by checking here for suggestions first.

I've found that getting WPA encryption working is hit-or-miss. I'd never run my desktop over unencrypted wireless in a dorm but if you're willing to use proprietary drivers and don't care about encryption most cards will work easily and there's a good database of known supported cards here:
