Hello all,
I was wondering how I can read a serial number (using hdparm) from a HP-DL360 G5 Server I have. It has a RAID controller ... drive located on /dev/cciss/c0d0 ... I just need to get a serial number for one of the drives .
Any Ideas??

Hello
the serial number can't be read with hdparm.
Use the CLI for the Smart Array Controller (works with E200I/E400E Controllers for SAS/SATA and the SCSI Smart Arrays Controllers 64xx)
The Cli is called" hpacucli" and runs without problems under gentoo. (tested with vanilla kernel 2.6.23.1 to 13)
HP released some Packages for Debian that work under gentoo too. (simply convert the deb to targz or tar or whatever..)
Take a look at : http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductsList.do?category=LINUX

Hello,
Thanks for your help .... where do i find the "hpacucli" utility ... and how about installation??
Additionally, I'm using a 2.6.16 kernel ... would this be a obstacle?
