|
|
Am hoping somebody else has come across this and has a way out for me.
Am trying to install on an AMD Athlon XP 1800. Via chipset, 256 DDR. The funny thing is, I had it drop to a shell -once-. X failed due to a video card problem after this. (resolved, and yes, I -am- still using same card).
Bootup is hanging when it comes to setting up USB. It gets to the splash screen, I F2 it and it hangs. I have tried disabling ACPI/APIC - also set scandelay. It constantly hangs on me.
Am using i686 Live CD btw.
Any pointer are greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Martin. _________________ -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK-----

You can also use any other live cd, for example Knoppix. Maybe the problem is fixed in a newer kernel (the kernel on the gentoo live cd is quite old). _________________ Never argue with an idiot. He brings you down to his level, then beats you with experience.

Yes, I use Knoppix quite a lot already, I just -very- much prefer to have a Gentoo Environment to work with when building Gentoo. Now that this problem has manifested itself, I would be stupid not to find a way round the problem. Is that not why we love Gentoo so much? _________________ -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK-----

Hi Martin,
you can try to install it as a virtual machine using VMware.
I use VMware to test some linux distributions. _________________ quality content inside |

Maybe you should use the SystemrescueCD from a guy that use recent Gentoo LiveCD with a custom kernel...I mean kernel 2.6.23-gentoo-r3.
I don't know what do you think of my idea, but I think that you will endup with a standard Gentoo installation CD methode. |

What is the actual chipset (or motherboard model) of this computer? _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)
