mouse only moves vertically

i emerged world and now my mouse only moves vertically. it worked fine before.
i have

xf86-input-mouse-1.2.3
xorg-server-1.4.0.9
xorg-x11-7.3

i would downgrade but im not sure which component to downgrade. help please.

i solved the problem by reading more posts. for me i downgraded hal and xf86-input-evdev like so

emerge -pv "<sys-apps/hal-0.5.10" "<x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev-1.2.0"

restarted hal and x and it works.
