Hello,

I have been using my linux box over one of my wireless access points for a short while....

Yestarday, i decided to try and connect to my other WEP enabled AP so i could remove the other non-setup-to-be-secure AP. The card works fine, and i've edited my wlancg-essid file to require WEP and gave it the right key... etc.

and it finds the new AP just fine (and network communication works wonderfully), but when i run iwconfig wlan0

one lines of it's output says something to the effect of
"encryption=no" or "wepencryption=no"

I know my friends powerbook didn't work on the AP until i set up the WEP key and my winxp laptop required it as well becfore communication would happen.

my question is if this is just iwconfig messing up or if there may be an underlieing problem....

by the by, airsnort reports that my AP (determined by MAC address) has wep enabled...airsnort also determined that there is someone else in my apartment complex with a linksys AP that is set up to the absolute defaults
essid="linksys" encryption=no :) it is fun using other peoples bandwidth!

thanks,
Jon
