the kernel seems to have changed significantly to only support select hardware now and no longer works as of 2.6.22...it crashes like crazy everywhere but there is an alternative kernel called vmlinuz2 that seems stable and is also identified as 2.6.22 in the distribution as opposed to the 2.6.22 rescue kernel that crashes everywhere...
the vmlinuz2 that seems to work is identified as 2.6.22 also and is a gentoo build...could gentoo be more specific about what options they used to build the vmlinuz2 kernel that is stable...i would like to know why one works but not the other when they are both 2.6.22. |

Your post is very vague. Please explain exactly what hardware is now unsupported, when it was last supported, and what types of crashes you are seeing. Post the output of emerge --info so we can see your compilation environment. Also, indicate where you found both the working and non-working kernels.
What are the exact versions of the kernels you are using? I see 11 different 2.6.22* ebuilds for sys-kernel/gentoo-sources. |
