This morning I decided to clock my install's boot. It only took about 15 (but on retimeing, 22) seconds to get to a full and ready KDE 4 (trunk) desktop . This is with a single core 2.4Ghz Athlon64 and only 512Mb ram. How fast have you gotten your computer to boot (no servers plz, we know they boot fast) post specs if you post a time.

My kdm starts in 80 seconds since I press the power. This includes 30 seconds of POST and sata tests, grub menu with password and two dm_crypt passwords (secure long passwords ). I use athlon-xp@1833, 2*512MB DDR RAM. _________________ Only Sith deals in absolutes. |

Well, this is really a disadvantage in this discussion You should try some bleeding edge stuff. I recommend weekly builds of Opera (occasionaly takes 100% CPU or even locks X) and intenzive kernel testing - try zen-sources _________________ Only Sith deals in absolutes. |
