Alsa broke, unresolved symbols when updating modules

Basically I had alsa working fine on my gentoo box, then one day it just stopped working. My best guess was that emerging somethign overwrote congi files or something

Regardless, I decided to re-emerge it from scratch in an attempt to get it working again.

Following the ASLA Doc here at the gentoo site, I made it up to:

update-modules


When I run that, I get this error:

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r5/kernel/fs/smbfs/smbfs.o


Obviously this is some kind of smb issue as well, but any idea what I can do to get rid of it? Thanks!

i had the same problem so i got the 2.4.21 kernel and compiled it and then re-compiled alsa and it just worked. or just re-compiling 2.4.20 kernel will do it as long as you boot the new bzImage
