Posted: Mon Jan 21, 2008 10:20 pm Post subject: Emerge KDE 4 without upgrading 3.5.7 to 3.5.8? [SOLVED] |
|
|
Is this possible or is it necessary to upgrade first to 3.5.8? I've read the stickies in this forum plus this guide http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/kde/kde4.xml which states that:
Quote: | You will need to install the latest revision (not version) of kde-base/kdebase (if you use monolithic ebuilds) or kde-base/kdebase-startkde (if you use split ebuilds). These versions include patches to allow multiple versions of KDE to coexist |
But I am not still sure if the upgrade to 3.5.8 is the only way to KDE 4. Could someone please clarify this?

According to the Changelog, both kdebase-startkde-3.5.8-r1 and kdebase-startkde-3.5.7-r1 have the required patches, so no, you do not need to upgrade to 3.5.8. _________________ "You have to invite me in" |

Thanx for the quick reply.
I have the monolithic ebuilds installed. When I keyword the kdebase and try to update, portage tries to emerge the 3.5.8 version. What should I do to upgrade to the 3.5.7 latest revision (it's ~x86 masked)?
And how can I see the changelog you mentioned so I won't bother you again with such trivial matters? |

The Changelog I was referring to was /usr/portage/kde-base/kdebase-startkde/ChangeLog, however the kde-base/kdebase ChangeLog suggests that kdebase-3.5.7-r6 and kdebase-3.5.8-r3 both have the same fix, so as long as you have at least r6 of the kdebase 3.5.7 package you should be fine.
And no, you do not need to upgrade to 3.5.8.
This is why the broken up ebuilds are superior, btw.
