I have a DLink DWL-G520 blah blah and it's always been a bit of a pain to get working.

I haven't been able to find a list of any easy to use wireless networking hardware in linux, so does anyone have any suggestions?

Intel Wireless IPW3945 or and the new Atheros chipset.

So it seems like the IPW3945 is a mini pci-e for laptops..

Which one is the 'new' Atheros Chipset?

Check out http://madwifi.org/wiki/Compatibility for a list of cards with Atheros chipsets which are supported by madwifi.
