Which is exactly my point. Stuff like crossdev happened a long time ago, and we haven't seen anything similar recently.

Define "issue". Have you managed to compile a 32-bit mplayer with Portage, with the use flags you want, yet?

Maybe some of you guys could try contributing back to Gentoo instead of leeching the tree and pretending to care about Gentoo QA?
Who's leeching anything here? Care to back up that troll?

You must have low expectations, then. I didn't say that what we have doesn't work, we just don't have very much.

What you mean Paludis isn't the great leap forward?

What so I should go and install the software you tell me to? If you don't like it, step up and help is the standard advice aiui.

Well your master obviously realised a while ago that he couldn't fork Gentoo without the ebuild devs, hence his desire to split the portage tree from portage, and his continued insistence that "the tree is Gentoo" even though it wouldn't even exist without Portage. As for QA, let's face it you're a joke as lead of that. You've done hardly any work on Gentoo, openly stating you don't give a damn about it, yet insist on using your position as a dev (I mean, c'mon: no commits for ages, then 3 little commits after the event to keep your status) to play political games on behalf of teh super-troll. You left PMS to stagnate for ages, and in fact from the outside it looked the whole taking on of the project was a ploy to keep the only dev ever to be forcibly retired at the centre of things, while hobbling Portage development (which was why the Council took it back in-house). He's toxin, and so are you imo; you have openly trolled the list stating you "don't care" and your team's contempt for users is legendary, yet you try and present it as "saving user's systems" from teh evil Gentoo devs. If only your games weren't so laughably transparent, I might have a smidgeon of respect left for you.

You have a nice day, now :-)

edit: fixed quoting.

Paludis is not a Gentoo project.

That was quite obviously an example of something that ought to be possible but isn't, it doesn't matter whether you personally want to do it or not. Feel free to substitute "build a 32-bit binary of Firefox so you can use Sun Java without having to use the -bin", if you use Firefox, or "build 32-bit sane and HAL libs so you can build wine with support for those", if you use wine, or anything else of that nature.

What makes you think that ciaranm wants to fork Gentoo?

steveL wrote:

That doesn't mean that the tree should only be used with Portage forever, any more than the PC architecture should only ever be used with DOS.

the only dev ever to be forcibly retired

That's a lie.

I hope you're not talking about Paludis there. If you are, please back up that statement.

I wasn't whinging about anything, I was answering someone's question. Please try to keep up, or at least read the thread before you post.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call argument ad hominem. "I don't like you, so I'm going to refute your logical argument with insults."

Once again, are you going to back up this troll with some reasonable discussion?
