It's somewhat annoying that I have to manually add "server ntp0.linx.net" at every reboot and restart ntpd. I'm reading the system startup scripts to find out at which point /etc/ntp.conf gets overwritten, from which source file, why etc?

Anyone knows how to fix? thx

Your are not using dhcp by any chance? In that case, the following thread might be of interest.

I think you edited /etc/ntpd.conf, try editing /etc/conf.d/ntpd
