Since many people write about portage-releted problems in Gentoo All-forum (or how it's called...), wouldn't it be nice with a Portage Forum? What do you think?
Kindest regards, Jacob W.

We have a lot of fourms. I dont want to scroll through 20 billion fourms. If we get more(even if we don't) i think we should be ale to hide some fourms. It's nice that they're fourms for different archichtechtures and different languages. But I think the mojority ofppl speak english and run x86s. Actially, if we could hide some fourms its be cool. Then if u konw a lot about something, or are having trouble with it, u could look at the fourm. If u don't care about it, u can ignore it. Heh, now i wish i said yes.

I'll have to agree with data_the_android. There are too many forums right now, and this is quite confusing to posters, as shown in (too) many cross posts.

But if you don't look at the forums every 3 hours you are flooded in some topics (for example "All About Gentoo" because everything goes in there).

A portage forum would be nice because all portage related things are there and if you want to ask you can use this one and if you are not interested in portage releated threads you just don't need to click it.

I don't say we must have one, I just say I'd agree with adding one

Generally because people don't think about where their post belongs first. I thnk 'All Things Gentoo'
should have its title changed, and moved to the bottom of the list. That way new users would see
other Forum headings first. After those, if the post doesn't fit, then put it in the renamed 'All Things
Gentoo' Forum. Oh, to be SiteAdmin for a day :D

Pretty smart idea (no, not to be siteadmin, but to move All things gentoo to the bottom of the list ;))!

I agree with the idea to move the All things gentoo obto the bottom!

I'm in for a portage forum. Would be better to close "Geneal Linux" instead. This one makes no sense because nearly all questions in Desktop, Networking, Hardware Forum are "General Linux" related.

ATG's description also reads as a bit too welcoming, perhaps. It comes across to me as if the only criterion for it being the correct board is that the poster is running Gentoo. Along with moving it to a less easily accessible spot, maybe adding an express note to its description that suggests that other forums are usually more appropriate could reduce the volume in there.

Right. This is being actively discussed by the forum staff as I write this, and there will be a forum reorganization. Stay tuned for details. ;)

Hi,

IMHO we need a forum for Portage.

Portage is a complex and powerful yet simple to use package and ports system. And when it comes to ebuild path/to/package.ebuild preinst some people like me might have sone questions.

It would be weird not to have a forum for the heart of Gentoo Linux but for evrything "Off the Wall".

(I rm -Rf-ed SuSE Linux for nothing but Portage).

Gert.
