madcat87,
I just emerged kdegraphics (svn) OK about 12 hours ago (Sat., 9::00PM), but I don't know about theNEPOMUK_LIBRARY variable, and I've never seen any message like you mentioned before. I do know I've never set that variable myself.

I don't think so. If I'm reading the ebuild correctly, it depends either on kde-base/kdeartwork-iconthemes:kde-svn, which indeed doesn't exist, or on kde-base/kdeartwork:kde-svn, which instead does exist.

I'd say: wait a couple of hours and try again. When you get an error compiling svn code, chances are that the problem are in the code itself, rather than in your system or in the way you tried to compile it (this is especially true when you use a package management tool such as emerge to build the software, since it should take care of things like dependencies for you). I've faced such issues in the past and they've always been fixed in some hours. As for the fact you've no nepomuk installed, it is a part of kdebase. The one you see listed is for those who use the stable version of KDE 4 and the split ebuilds. For us who use the svn version, there aren't split ebuilds and, as I said, nepomuk is installed with kdebase.

EDIT: the nepomuk library is part of kdelibs, not kdebase. The client is part of kdebase

Hmmmm.. Not sure I understand- What was your emerge command? If you are trying to build kdebase-9999.4, why does the 2nd code snippet from what I assume was emerge -pv refer to kdelibs-4.0.2 and kdepimlibs-4.0.2 not being installed? Do you actually have kdelibs and kdepimlibs svn installed now?

browsing SVN i found this:
Code:
Revision 789215 - (view) (download) (as text) (annotate) - [select for diffs]
Modified Sun Mar 23 16:07:18 2008 UTC (2 hours, 12 minutes ago) by rich
File length: 5770 byte(s)
Diff to previous 788565
- Fix build for non-nepomuk users

now it produces some others errors.

I understand that this kind of little errors are product of SVN in constant change.

i will try to emerge it in late night.

wrc1944: sorry i made an emerge -s nepomuk in search of it because i've all SVN basic installed;

BTW: when will be nepomuk ins SVN, or can somebody tell me te reason why it is not in it??

sorry my cr@ppy english.

have a nice sunday.

The situation is a bit more complex. As far as I understand it, we must distinguish between the Nepomuk library, which is part of the kdelibs tarball and ebuild (both the official 4.0.x and the svn one) and the Nepomuk client, which is part of the kdebase-runtime tarball. For those using the monolithic ebuilds (which means for everyone using the svn ebuilds, since there are no svn split ebuilds) the Nepomuk client is part of the kdebase ebuild, while for those using the split ebuild, there's a separate nepomuk ebuild.

Related to nepomuk is it's dependency soprano. I updated KDE SVN on Gentoo yesterday, but didn't notice new info on this I just found out about.

Today, I decided to update my Arch partition KDE SVN, using the kdesvn-build script. Anyway, during configure of kdebase, a message popped up saying "soprano-2.0.2 was too old, please install 2.0.97 or newer, required for nepomuk."

I looked all over, but couldn't find 2.0.97, but did find 2.0.3- don't know if that's really newer or not. I installed it, but on recompile of kdebase, it didn't pick it up- don't know why.

It didn't cause kdebase to error out, so I just went ahead. What's curious is that kdesvn-build installs the kdesupport package from the trunk repo which includes soprano svn, and it all looks normal, but apparently it isn't recognized by kdebase (on Arch).

Come to think of it, IIRC, on Gentoo yesterday, I did have to update soprano to svn from the 2.0.2 I had from portage before emerge kdebase would even start compiling.

Anyway, my point is that nepomuk problems could be related to the soprano version some users might have installed. After my Arch SVN updates finish up, I'll go back to Gentoo and review this, and make sure I did indeed update soprano to svn.

Now kdebase won't build.The thing is that apparently there is some change in kdelibs about nepomuk,and now dolphin won't start if I don't rebuild kdebase.

I don't think so. If I'm reading the ebuild correctly, it depends either on kde-base/kdeartwork-iconthemes:kde-svn, which indeed doesn't exist, or on kde-base/kdeartwork:kde-svn, which instead does exist.

Thx, it works now. Still don't get why it defaulted to kdeartwork-iconthemes and wasn't aware of kdeartwork, but well, I'm satisfied. :?

kg4ojl: Delete your download directory and try again, I know they were having problems last week and your local tree might be corrupted.

Code:
rm -rf /usr/portage/distfiles/svn-src/KDE/kdebase/

Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't say you're the only one. There have been other posts with problems like yours in the last days. What I did to build kdebase was to reach to the point it failed updating the external object, then re-issue the emerge emerge command with the ESVN_OFF=1 environment variable:

ESVN_OFF emerge kdebase

I don't know whether this was a good solution or if it broke something, but it seemed to work.

One of the anonsvn mirrors seems to freak out.

I simply added following to /etc/hosts for now:
Code:
138.246.255.177 anonsvn.kde.org

That did the trick adding 138.246.255.177 anonsvn.kde.org to /etc/hosts.

Thank You.

mikkoc posted this on the qt-snapshot thread. I had to use it last night on my Arch partition update. Guess I'll need it on Gentoo, too, after my qt update finishes. :? I wonder if they are aware of the problem?
Quote:
I temporarly solved by substituting 138.246.255.177 to anonsvn.kde.org, in the kde4-svn.eclass.
Like this: ESVN_MIRROR="svn://138.246.255.177/home/kde"
And I also needed to remove the /svn-src/KDE/foobar/ dir, otherwise it couldn't update.

BTW, I just used gimpel's /etc/hosts entry, and didn't need to remove anything in svn-src- the updated svn packages were picked up.

I just installed kde4.0.2 and I am pretty happy with it, and I would like to get compiz-fusion working as well. After a lot of trial and error I finally discovered that what I needed to do to get compiz to compile was to use -kde in /etc/portage/package.use. Now that I have made that modification I am able to compile everything, and get compiz-fusion installed and up and running even in kde4, but when I use compiz-fusion, things kinda look out of place and gnomy. Is there a way to fix this? Perhaps install an kde3.5* package that compiz relies on?

I think I was able to solve my problem, so I thought I would share my findings here. I had to install kwin 3.5.8 in order to get compiz to compile with the kde flag on. Now things work as designed and I am very pleased with kde4+compiz-fusion.

Just finished an svn update- all packages compiled fine. However, I now have the infuriating xorg screen resolution problem I have always had on my Arch partition. At least on my Arch install, I can get my normal 1280x1024@75 I've used for years on this Gateway EV910 19" monitor by manipulating systemsettings->display by going to 1152x864 and changing to 75Hz, accepting, then changing back to 1280x1024 and accepting. That gets me the full screen display, but it doesn't survive restarting kde. I have to do the same routine each time to get the full display.

Until today's full update on my Gentoo SVN install, I did have 1280x1024@75, and it was permanent, for months with kde svn.

It's now suddenly ike the Arch install, only worse, in that I can't even temporarily manipulate it into the full 1280x1024@75 display. Krandr doesn't have the 75hz setting anymore for 1280x1024, and reverts to "Auto," which gets me the wrong value. I've faced this before on Arch, and no re-configuring of xorg.conf helps. I'm convinced krandr is still buggy, but surely there must be a manual edit work-around? I know my hardware well, as I build all my boxes. Here's the krandrrc file:
Code:
[Screen_0]
OutputsUnified=false
UnifiedRect=0,0,0,0
UnifiedRotation=1

[Screen_0_Output_VGA-0]
Active=true
Rect=0,0,1280,1024
RefreshRate=74.9021835327148
Rotation=1

[Screen_0_Output_default]
Active=true
Rect=0,0,1280,1024
RefreshRate=75
Rotation=1

No edits or commenting out will take, even when done outside of plasma, or from a pure terminal boot. Starting kde always reverts it to the above. It seems something else in kde is recreating the file on restart, but with the 74.9021835327148 refresh rate, which is wrong, giving me a 17' size display on a 19' screen.

Anyone else have this happening, and a solution? I must be missing something simple, but I've configured xorg.conf literally thousands of times on coutless distros, and never run into this before- it just escapes me, both on Arch and Gentoo. There must be something unique to kde4 that I'm blind to. :?

EDIT: OK- by changing the vertical refresh rate in xorg.conf, I can manipulate it in systemsettings->display like with Arch to get a full 1280x1024@756 display, but it doesn't survive a kde restart. And, the setting in krandrrc is now RefreshRate=74.9021835327148 after I had set it to 75 in systemsettings-> display. If I change 74.9021835327148 back to 75 in the krandrrc file, it reverts to the previous wrong setting on restart. I guess I need to start looking in all the source files relating to this- can someone suggest which ones other than the obvious systemsettings might be worth looking at?

It is probably your xrand which is broken... Be thankful that you do not have dual screens ;)

Mine reports the refresh rate as 50 instead of 60 and I get terrible tearing, nothing seems to fix it :( You can try disabling xrandr altogether

Does anyone know what happened to kdebindings? It disappeared from the overlay

mikedee,
I just discovered that if I go to kicker->applications->System Tools-> and click KRandRTray and place it's icon in the panel, and THEN left click it, it places another smaller icon on the right side of the panel. Then I can remove the first larger icon, and right click the smaller icon, and refresh rate choose 75, and it re-starts X, and I can accept my normal 1280x1024@75, full screen display. :D

However, it still doesn't survive re-starting kde, but the small icon remains, and I can reset my resolution without having to go through kicker->systemsettings->display, and first setting 1152x864@75, accepting, and then resetting to 1280x1024@75. If it did retain my settings, it would then be like kde has always worked with kranadr

All I can say is it's now a little less of a PITA.

IMO, in any decent desktop environment, not being able to retain your preferred screen resolution when re-starting/rebooting is ridiculous, and completely unacceptable. This is worse than not being able to retain the preferred panel size, which was finally fixed last week. Things like this should be an absolute major priority.

In user/portage/distfiles/svn-src/kdebase/workspace/kcontrol/randr/changelog I found this comment:
Quote:
Remove performApplyOnStartup for KRandRModule - this makes sense for
krandrtray, which likely starts up with KDE4, but not for opening the
KCModule, which should keep the active settings until the user makes a change.

Indeed, when you click "Configure Display" from the panel krandr icon's pop-up settings menu, there is no "apply on starting kde" check box, like there used to be in kde3. Seems like this is the problem to me- someone decided to remove this functionality, although I can't understand why. :? Makes no sense to me, if there is no other obvious way to retain your preferred settings. 8O
