any help?
thanks
edit: since part of compiz updated fine, its now entirely broken and i had to sign in as root as i couldn't see or open anything on my normal user account.
i believe this may be related to an emerge world i did prior which updated driproto and may have done something to xrender.h which is what looks to be the source of the failure...
edit again:
downgrading renderproto to 0.9.2 fixed this issue |

spoke too soon...
although everything compiled fine, when i log in now, i am greeted with a flickering desktop, with a white bar over my panel, and another over where awn usually resides, both flickering unsteadily.
i opened a terminal through a keybinding, since i cannot really see any windows, as they are all white flickering boxes with no text, and blindly typed killall compiz
i was at least able to then run xfwm4 then so i can navigate and view whats on my screen
running fusion-icon in a terminal then gives me:
Code: | borg@Collective ~ $ fusion-icon
* Detected Session: xfce
* Searching for installed applications...
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/fusion-icon", line 57, in ?

TypeError: unsubscriptable object
|
running compiz --replace gives me an entirely white screen with only a cursor
i had a feeling that i should have just left well enough alone and kept my working compiz setup, but what could go wrong?
...
if anyone can help me sort through this mess i would be very appreciative
thanks |

Hi,
I have a slightly different issue.
Just installed compiz-fusion 0.7.6 from the overlay. I also installed fusion-icon 0.1.
The cube and everything looks ok, but I can't move any of the windows, they are stuck in the position they where before I run fusion-icon.
When I run it from the terminal it says:
Code: | * Detected Session: gnome
* Searching for installed applications...
* NVIDIA on Xorg detected, exporting: __GL_YIELD=NOTHING
* Using the GTK Interface
* Starting Compiz
... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp compiz (core) - Error: no 'text' plugin with ABI version '20080421'
loaded
compiz (ring) - Warn: No compatible text plugin found.
compiz (core) - Error: no 'text' plugin with ABI version '20080421'
loaded
compiz (shift) - Warn: No compatible text plugin loaded. |
I am running Gnome 2.22.2 if that makes any difference. That text plugin it complains about, which is that? Could it be the cause? Or is there a newer fusion-icon?
EDIT: I have noticed other posts mentioning that this might be caused by components from old version on the system. I did install over compiz-fusion 0.6.0 (from portage). I have just removed compiz-fusion and emerald again (hopefully I found all the components too). I will re-emerge again later. Would be good if someone know which plugin this is so I can try to find exactly where the problem is. thanks. |

I have just updated the live ebuilds and with GCC 4.3.1 and glibc 2.8 these no longer build
item 2288 =x11-plugins/compiz-plugins-ghost-9999
item 2289 =x11-plugins/compiz-plugins-screensaver-9999
item 2290 =x11-plugins/compiz-plugins-freewins-9999
but all the rest emerged fine. _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

I have rebuilt my compiz-fusion still running on Gnome 2.22 as I mentioned in June 11 post above.
All looks ok, but I still can't move any windows. They are stuck in the position they open. I also still have the text plugin error (see my post above on 11 June).
Any ideas how to solve this?

Doh! Just noticed that the reason I couldn't move any windows is that the "Move Window" plugin wasn't enabled.
Quiet honestly, why have a plugin for something basic as that? At least it should be enabled by default. If some people want to have the option of not being able to move windows,w ouldn't it be better to have a setting for that in the general section or something?

I'm still getting a sandbox error on avant-window-navigator. Anyone know why? |

I got compiz in fine, but i too get the dreaded whitescreen of perdition when i use compiz --replace.
I'm on a laptop with an ati x1600 using the ati drivers and fglrx.
I've put the options listing in the xorg.conf file as instructed and am installing from the layman but aside from that i've no clue what information would be useful on this one. If additional information is required lemmie know, and for the love of Bob if you know how to fix this one say so. I'm so tired of vista and mac boys in the office giving me grief!!

Have you tried the fusion-icon (available from layman too), Wierdo ? I have noticed when I run fusion-icon from terminal, it prints out the command line it uses. Its quiet a bit more then just compiz --replace...
Other then annoying disabled plugins, I haven't seen any error so far.

Have you tried the fusion-icon (available from layman too), Wierdo ? I have noticed when I run fusion-icon from terminal, it prints out the command line it uses. Its quiet a bit more then just compiz --replace...
Other then annoying disabled plugins, I haven't seen any error so far.

I've tried that as well. I still get this bit white screen. I know screen elements are there somewhere, as the mouse pointer changes as i move it about the screen, but for the life of me can't seem to figure out what's going on. |

as far as my problem is concerned a re-emerge of automake-wrapper (aclocal belongs to it) seemed to have solved it... |

ok i managed to go on with the emerge but now i'm having trouble getting access to the options of ccsm either through executing ccsm or through fusion-icon...when i click on most options in ccsm i cannot get into the menu of the option i choose...for example i cannot get into "General Options"...i am able however to enable compiz through "fusion-icon-> Select window manager"...here is the output when i run ccsm from konsole Code: | jrn23@ ~ > ccsm

I have got the same problem but didn't got time to work on it earlier and it fixes itself
i don't think it was a problem from your installation but rather a problem from the compiz fusion GIT server or repositories

what do you suggest i do? run a 'layman -S && emerge --sync && emerge compizconfig-python' ?? maybe some time tomorrow to give it time if there is a possibility of being a corrupted packet? |

I'm on a laptop with an ati x1600 using the ati drivers and fglrx.
I've put the options listing in the xorg.conf file as instructed and am installing from the layman but aside from that i've no clue what information would be useful on this one. If additional information is required lemmie know, and for the love of Bob if you know how to fix this one say so. I'm so tired of vista and mac boys in the office giving me grief!!

I had the same white screen problem recently, turned out that AIGLX was not starting properly due to incompatible DRI drivers.
I eventually solved it by emerging xorg-server-1.4.2 and downgrading mesa to 0.7.2 |

Okay, I see you still have both versions of python installed, you must fix that first before you try to continue. Run python-updater and make a note of all the packages it wants to emerge. Many times it will fail. When it does you need to mark off the packages emerged and keep emerging them until everything is emerged. Some will not emerge until other packages have been emerged and in my experience, python-updater doesn't always get the order correct. After you have successfully emerged all needed packages, run equery d python and be sure there is nothing else in your system that needs 2.4 and then unmerge python 2.4. Follow this with a revdep-rebuild and my strongest recommendation is to emerge system afterwards. I will usually re-emerge my entire world after updates to gcc or glibc. Thats optional but there is a great script that will do this for you here
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-494331-highlight-guenther+brunthaler.html
at the very least I would emerge system.
When you are trying to emerge alot of packages such as in updating your python I have sometimes manually edited the script provided at the above website and with a few minutes of editing the script, it will run until all those packages are emerged. _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

Same problem here, a workaround is to compile compiz with the svg USE flag enabled. |

Few months ago i had compiz-fusion (from xeffect overlay) and it worked quite nice. Now I wanted the newest thing so i unemerged all the old packages and i wanted to install new ones. I added the desktop-effects overlay, added things in package.keywords, but when I try to emerge compiz-fusion it fails ;(
I did layman -S
compiz-9999 fails at gconf (i reemerged gconf and i tried the stable and ~x86 version - no luck)
http://paste.org/index.php?id=3085
and i thought i'd try to emerge compiz-bcop-9999 and it also failed at aclocal (and yes i tried to reemerge it with x86 and ~x86 keywords - no luck)
http://paste.org/index.php?id=3086
emerge info:
http://paste.org/index.php?id=3087
can someone help me with this? |
