I compiled sound in kernel as a module, and emu10k1 and pcm-oss as modules too.
Then i did 'emerge alsa-drivers' and after that 'modprobe emu10k1', but my box cannot found the module. It isn't in /lib/modules/.../misc too.
What to do now? I followed all instructions on gentoo.org and everything I found on this forum, but I couldn't get alsa working |

You should only compile sound support in the kernel - nothing else! When you emerge alsa-driver it'l give you the drivers (the config guide isn't too clear about the kernel option - do NOT compile anything but sound support).
BTW I included it in the kernel, but it should work as a module as well.
Hope this helps.
Note: The alsa modules are named snd-* |
