Java Applets in FF: Focus Thieves

Whenever I go to a webpage with a Java applet, it of course takes a short amount of time for the VM to load. In the interval, I like to do something - start some other application, for instance - which I customarily do on a different virtual desktop. Problem is, once the applet has loaded, Firefox jumps to whichever desktop I'm on, above whatever windows I may then have open on that desktop. This is REALLY annoying behaviour. Anyone know how I can prevent this from happening?

I use the latest Xfce and FF, and my JRE is currently Sun 1.6.
