when i installed gentoo it was on my friends connection. he had a fraction of a T1. i had to move the box to my high schools netwok and they have novell. when i compiled my kernel i put all tht ipx stuff. the problem is i cannot get net access to finish getting everything i need (gnome apache x86 etc). is there anyone out there who knows a lot about netware.
and btw we use static routing. |

i forgot to mention that i cannot even ping within the network. i can ping myself but nothing else.
ex: pinging my default gateway
#ping 10.1.20.1 (default gateway)
PING 10.1.20.1 (10.1.20.1): 56 octets of data
sendto: network is unreachable |

You need to explain more about your situation if you have not already solved it. While IPX can travel over routers, none of the public Gentoo rsync servers that I know of allow you to connect to them via IPX. Just because you have Novell NetWare running does not mean you need to run IPX. Netware server starting with version 4 could talk IP and with versions 5 and 6 of Netware, the reliance on IPX has gone down.
What do you get when you run ipconfig?
All you probably need to do is enable support for TCP/IP in your kernel and assign you computer an ip address or to use DHCP in /etc/conf.d/net. |

Also be sure to check that your routing table is setup right.
If you need to authenticate to a netware server in order to get internet access it will probably be tricky. You can try emerging ncpfs, which will give you such tools as ncplogin that should let you access the Netware network through IPX or IP. _________________ Meh. |
