|
|
Since attempting "emerge --update --deep --newuse world" I have been unable to start kde. The update ended when it was unable to emerge package x11-libs/libXpm. The next time I rebooted, i got the nvidia splash screen as usual, but instead of the kde login, I then got a black screen with an X type dialog saying it couldn't start kdeinit.
I tried unmerging kde to see if I could start x without it, but now when I run startx I get the nvidia splash screen, then am kicked back to the command prompt without anything that resembled an error message.
Any Ideas?

check /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
can you continue your update/upgrade? did you run a etc-update/dipatch-conf? |

you wrote "it was unable to emerge a package". what package was that?
have you already tried a revdep-rebuild? |

The package was libXpm. (I actually updated my original post to include this) I am not sure how to continue the update or what etc-update/dipatch-conf does. I have tried "revdep-rebuild -X --library libxpm" to no effect. |
