wpa_gui stuck on scanning

I have a belkin card with the broadcom chipset (bmc43xx). I have wpa_supplicant set up on my laptop (a friend helped with it), and it used to work great with my wireless, as well as the open ones I could find. Recently, I have had trouble connecting to any. I can select the interfaces and it tried so connect, but always hangs on scanning, and never progresses further. I would supply more information about how it is set up, but honestly I'm not entirely sure. Just ask, and I can post logs/outputs.
