|
|
Hi all,
I've recently been having issues with SDL sound lagging. In games like Cube, there's a constant difference between me performing an action and the sound occurring. Now, I'm assuming that it has something to do with the fact that it's using aRTs as the sound output device... are there any console commands to use when starting aRTs that cause this sound lag to stop? I know, I know, don't use arts in the first place... but I can't get the ALSA dmix plugin to work, hence software mixing doesn't work... and I can't afford a card with hardware mixing for quite a while.
*Sigh* Going back to Windows is sorely tempting D:! |

I don't use arts, but from looking at the --help output I see:
Quote: |
-F <fragments> number of fragments
-S <size> fragment size in bytes
|
I would imagine the latency is determined by F*S so you need
to get these values down. If I start artsd with debug output
it opens the device with S=1024 (reasonable) and F=7 (not
so reasonable) for a latency of 40 ms (horrible). A reasonable
value would be F=2. The downside is performance...smaller
buffer makes for tighter constraints and may result in pops
because your system can't keep up with a hungry sound card.
