|
|
I know how to handle .srt but I can't get .sub and .idx to work. It encodes with no errors but I can't see the subs in encode?
mencoder -o output.avi -forceidx -ovc xvid -xvidencopts chroma_opt:vhq=4:bvhq=1:fixed_quant=4 -oac copy -sub yella.2007.dvdrip.xvid.fragment.sub -subpos 10 input.avi
I know it is something simple there I am missing, I googled for two hours straight.
Wait I forgot you have to encode to .mpg to hardcode subs don't you? Someone help me out. |

From the online MPlayer documentation at http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/ :
Quote: | VOBsub subtitles. VOBsub subtitles consist of a big (some megabytes) .SUB file, and optional .IDX and/or .IFO files. If you have files like sample.sub, sample.ifo (optional), sample.idx - you have to pass MPlayer the -vobsub sample [-vobsubid id] options (full path optional). The -vobsubid option is like -sid for DVDs, you can choose between subtitle tracks (languages) with it. In case that -vobsubid is omitted, MPlayer will try to use the languages given by the -slang option and fall back to the langidx in the .IDX file to set the subtitle language. If it fails, there will be no subtitles. |
So, "-vobsub yella.2007.dvdrip.xvid.fragment" |

Mplayer won't pick up the subs, or else I would have already done that and >file redirection for mplayer stdout. I know they are not corrupt. |

vlanhopper,
I've also messed around with that and could never get it to work. The -sub function will allow viewing the subtitles from a file, but you have to run mplayer. |

In my experience, the best thing to do is use a Matroska container. Emerge media-video/mkvtoolnix with the wxwindows USE flag to get mmg, which is a very helpful GUI for making Matroskas. All you have to do is add your subtitle file to the list of files to be merged, and it will "just work." However, if you do this, don't forget to add "-vf harddup" to your mencoder line, or you'll lose sync in your video. _________________ Don't believe the "n00b" under my name. |

I assumed the poster was going for a portable player or something similar. I can't really think of any other good reason to want to hardcode subs. Portable player would almost essentially rule out .mkv. Of course, I could be completely off on my assumption. |
