Weird problem. Maybe Firewall Rulez on gentoo forums...
I can access the forum from work, but from home I can only ping the IP, and I cannot connect to port 80...
so I dont have access from *videotron.ca hosts...
cna anyone confirm this ? |

There should be no problems accessing the Forums from any domains.
Personally I'm accessing it now from behind a very restrictive firewall at work and have done so all the time.
I would be interesting to see the result of a traceroute:
traceroute forums.gentoo.org
This will show all the steps taken from your machine via the various routers to forums.gentoo.org along with the time each step takes.
Post it here and we'll take a look at it.

There have been some other reports of problems accessing the forums from Eastern Canada. Perhaps there is a misconfigured router somewhere. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Sorry, I have posted another thread for this exact same problem i'm having for nearly 2 weeks now. Can't access from home and neither form the university. Now I have found a way using a public proxy anonymizer, but it's a pain since I must bypass the cache and filter proxies.
There is a traceroute in that thread. I notice there is a non-routable IP showing up. Can it be the problem.
Hope it can be fixed somehow. 2 weeks is loooong.
ADDENDUM:
To be torought, I also included a traceroute from the university. So this makes up for 3 differents hosts (Videotron.ca, vif.com and uqam.ca) that can't reach the forum.

man.. I have been having the same problem and I'm in mtl too..
I thought that maybe the address I got was band since I could access the site from work and every other of my friends here in mtl could access the site. I tried many things to get it to work this morning and it wouldn't work.. drove me crazy.. I thought it was maybe that I upgraded a package "mozilla" and something that forums.gentoo.org needs was fucked in mozilla.. so I booted with a knoppix.. still no go.. I did a "reset to factory default" on my cable modem.. waited for the network to come back.. got a new IP.. still no go.. I have been trying randomly all day. Now I just got it? no clue why it works and how long it will work.. |

I'm sure Videotron has nothing to do with this.
- My ISP is vif.ca, an adsl provider.
- My university is connected thrue risq.net(?)
- From neither of them I could reach the forum.
- It was the only site unreachable (at least, of those I surfed to during that period).
So, chances are that it is (like Rac said) probably a misconfigured router near gentoo's side.

Hi there,
I'm the owner of Pilosoft, colo provider for forums.gentoo.org
10.* (private IPs in network infrastructure) are not the cause of any routing problems.
Issue with transit between Pilosoft and Videotron turned out to be Peer1 (our common transit) causing some breakage, now corrected. |

apilosov, thanks so much for hosting the forums server. These forums would be in much worse shape without your generosity. Also glad that the routing issue is fixed. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Just pointing out that i'm not a videotron client nor is my University, unless they all share a common node on the backbone(?) _________________ (7 of 9) Installing star-trek/species-8.4.7.2::talax. |
