I'm looking at making a custom boot cd for gentoo on alpha. I can't use any of the official Gentoo Alpha CD's, cause the kernel on those cd's uses devfs. Theres a known issue with the implementation of devfs in the linux kernel. I've googled around and found the same issue popping up on debian, redhat, and other distro's on alpha, all associated with devfs. It seems to only happen on certain alpha's, and its happening to the alpha I'm currently using. I was able to bootstrap the system using a debian boot cd, since it doesn't use devfs, but that means no xfs. I would really appriciate help on building an alpha gentoo boot cd with a kernel that I compile. _________________
